Sleeping Death

Inspired by the Evil Queen’s “Sleeping Death,” this spellbinding apple-forward cocktail blends absinthe, kirsch, dry vermouth, and hard cider with dramatic color, a candy-apple rim, and crisp anise notes for a bewitching drink that’s tempting rather than deadly. (Recipe Below)

Inspired by the potion of the Evil Queen called "Sleeping Death" which she obscures into a beautiful and delicious looking red apple.  Our cocktail has spell-like vibes with Absinthe as the base of this cocktail, to bring out tart fruit flavors, we use Kirsch Liqueur and Dry Vermouth.  For strong apple flavors, we made a Granny Apple Saccharum which boasts of apple flavor and top it off with a Hard Apple Cider (we like one on the dry side).  To add the drama of the Evil Queen's dark purple robes, we infused the Kirsch Liqueur with a heaping amount of Dried Butterfly Pea Flowers and add a black sphere like the Evil Queen's potion, and just like the Evil Queen, we made a candy apple rim by dipping the goblet in the Granny Smith Saccharum and then in red sprinkles.  This drink is full of apple flavor, crisp, and lightly scented with fennel and anise from the Absinthe.  It won't make you fall into a Sleeping Death, but like Snow White, it will make you want to come in for another bite.

  • Granny Smith Saccharum

Pure apple flavor with a slight tartness and a balanced sweetness.  The Granny Smith apple is chosen for it's freshness and firmness making it easier to maintain color and clarity.

    To Make It:

    1 Granny Smith Apple

    .5 cup (100g) Cane Sugar

Dice or slice a clean granny smith apple.  Combine with sugar in a resealable bag and gently mix.  Leave in the refrigerator for 24 hours occasionally mixing to combine.  Strain out into a syrup bottle.

  • Black Sphere

Adds more visual "drama" than flavor unless you take your time with the drink, then you will enjoy additional light floral notes.

    To Make It:

    8 oz (240mL) Boiling Water

1 Tbs (15g) Earl Grey Tea (3 bags)

2 oz (60mL) Sweetener of choice

    1 capsule (5g) Activated Charcoal

Steep Earl Grey Tea in water for 5- 8 minutes.  Strain out tea; allow to cool to room temperature; stir in sweetener and activated charcoal.  Pour into molds.  Freeze for 12-24 hours

  • Butterfly Pea Flowers

Light in flavor, but high in color pay out.  Butterfly pea flower usually works best as a cold infusion so as to leave any bitterness from the herb into the flower.

Fairest of Them All: Two Spellbinding Cocktails Inspired by Disney’s Snow White

Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs tells the story of a jealous Evil Queen, a hunted princess, and a magical escape that leads Snow White to refuge with the Seven Dwarfs. When the Queen learns Snow White still lives, she crafts the infamous “Sleeping Death” potion, inspiring a dramatic apple-forward cocktail built with absinthe, kirsch, apple cider, and theatrical garnishes. The darker drink contrasts with a second cocktail, “Someday,” inspired by Snow White’s gentle romance and hopeful song “Someday My Prince Will Come.” That rosy, silky cocktail blends coconut rum, sloe gin, berry notes, and rose water, topped with a delicate pink foam. Together, the drinks celebrate the film’s enduring music, characters, and iconic imagery nearly a century after its release.
